Senior Embedded Linux Build & Integration Engineer – Yocto/AOSP
Job Description:
Build the infrastructure and automation behind complex Android and Embedded Linux platforms.
Before You Apply
This is a full-time employment opportunity. We are not considering B2B, freelance, consulting, or independent-contractor arrangements.
Hands-on experience with at least one of AOSP, Android BSP, Yocto, firmware, or Embedded Linux build environments is required.
This is not a cloud DevOps role.
If your experience is primarily AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes administration, Terraform, cloud infrastructure, or CI/CD for web applications, this role will not be the right match.
We need an engineer comfortable with Linux build servers, native compilation, build systems, toolchains, CI/CD, release automation, SBOMs, and debugging broken builds hands-on.
About L4B Software
L4B Software is an embedded software and platform-engineering company headquartered in Munich, Germany, with an engineering presence in Pune, India.
We design, customize, integrate, secure, and maintain operating-system platforms based on Embedded Linux and Android/AOSP, tailored to the hardware, product architecture, security requirements, and lifecycle needs of our customers.
Our engineering capabilities span:
Customized Embedded Linux | Android/AOSP | BSP & Platform Integration | Product Cybersecurity | DevOps | System Validation
We support demanding and long-lifecycle products across medical technology, automotive, industrial systems, and other embedded environments.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Embedded Linux Build & Integration Engineer to own and improve the build, CI/CD, release, and software-supply-chain infrastructure behind our Android/AOSP and Embedded Linux platforms.
You'll work where Linux systems, native build environments, platform engineering, CI/CD, release engineering, and cybersecurity meet.
When a large Android or Yocto build fails, we need someone who can investigate the build host, toolchain, dependencies, permissions, storage, memory, scripts, source configuration, and build environment — and get it working again.
This is a hands-on engineering role, not pipeline administration from a distance.
What You'll Do
- Own and maintain Linux build servers, build agents, runners, and build-farm infrastructure.
- Build, integrate, and troubleshoot AOSP, Android BSP, Yocto, and Embedded Linux build environments.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps.
- Diagnose complex build failures involving toolchains, dependencies, disk, memory, permissions, environment configuration, and native compilation.
- Automate engineering workflows using Bash and Python.
- Own release packaging, artifact publishing, versioning, and release automation.
- Improve build reproducibility, reliability, and traceability.
- Implement automated SBOM generation using formats/tools such as SPDX, CycloneDX, and Syft.
- Integrate vulnerability and software-composition analysis into build pipelines using tools such as Trivy, Grype, Dependency-Track, Black Duck, Snyk, and Yocto CVE tooling.
- Maintain artifact repositories and release assets using tools such as Artifactory, JFrog, or Nexus.
- Generate reliable release evidence showing what was built, from which source/configuration, and what components were included.
- Work closely with Embedded Linux, AOSP/BSP, Product Cybersecurity, and Validation engineers to continuously improve platform build and release processes.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in build engineering, release engineering, embedded DevOps, platform engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Hands-on experience with at least one of AOSP, Android BSP, Yocto, firmware, or Embedded Linux.
- Experience working with large native software builds and build environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or comparable CI/CD systems.
- Strong Bash scripting skills.
- Practical Python scripting/automation experience.
- Experience managing Linux build servers, agents, runners, or build farms.
- Strong debugging skills and the ability to independently investigate failed builds and pipelines.
- Good understanding of Git, source control, branching, build configuration, and release workflows.
Technical Experience We Value
Relevant experience across several of these areas would be particularly valuable:
AOSP / Android BSP | Yocto / BitBake | Embedded Linux | Jenkins | GitLab CI | GitHub Actions | Azure DevOps | Bash | Python | Artifactory / JFrog / Nexus | SBOM | SPDX / CycloneDX | Syft | Trivy / Grype | Dependency-Track | SCA / CVE Pipelines | Release Automation
Experience supporting regulated, security-sensitive, or long-lifecycle embedded products is an advantage.
What This Role Is Not
This is not primarily:
- Cloud infrastructure engineering
- Kubernetes administration
- Terraform / Infrastructure-as-Code engineering
- AWS, Azure, or GCP platform administration
- CI/CD for web or enterprise applications
- IT infrastructure administration
Cloud experience is not a disadvantage, but it cannot replace hands-on embedded/native build experience.
The core of this role is:
Linux Build Infrastructure AOSP / Yocto / Embedded Builds CI/CD Release Automation SBOM & Supply-Chain Security
What Success Looks Like
You'll help us reach a point where:
- Android and Embedded Linux builds are automated and reliable.
- Build failures can be diagnosed and recovered quickly.
- Releases are reproducible rather than dependent on tribal knowledge.
- SBOM generation and CVE monitoring are automated.
- Release artifacts are traceable and controlled.
- Every release has clear engineering evidence.
- Manual release activity becomes the exception rather than the normal process.
Why Join L4B?
You'll work on the engineering infrastructure behind real embedded operating-system platforms, not generic web or cloud workloads.
Your work will directly affect how quickly engineering teams can build, integrate, validate, secure, and release customized Android/AOSP and Embedded Linux platforms.
If you enjoy getting close to Linux systems, build environments, toolchains, automation, and complex native software builds, you'll have meaningful ownership here.
