Senior Android/AOSP Platform Engineer

Job Description:

Engineer Android at the platform level — beyond the application layer.

Before You Apply

This is a full-time employment opportunity. We are not considering B2B, freelance, consulting, or independent-contractor arrangements.

This is a low-level Android/AOSP platform-engineering role, not Android application development.

Hands-on AOSP source/platform experience is required. If your experience is primarily Kotlin/Java application development without hands-on work with AOSP platform components, Android framework/native services, HAL/vendor components, BSP integration, or system-level debugging, this role will not be the right match.

About L4B Software

L4B Software is an embedded software and platform-engineering company headquartered in Munich, Germany, with an engineering presence in Pune, India.

We design, customize, integrate, secure, and maintain operating-system platforms based on Android/AOSP and Embedded Linux, tailored to the hardware, product architecture, security requirements, and lifecycle needs of our customers.

Our engineering capabilities span:

Android/AOSP | Customized Embedded Linux | BSP & Platform Integration | Product Cybersecurity | DevOps | System Validation

We support demanding and long-lifecycle products across medical technology, automotive, industrial systems, and other embedded environments.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Android/AOSP Platform Engineer to develop, customize, integrate, and maintain Android-based operating-system platforms for embedded products.

You'll work inside the AOSP platform across Android framework and native services, Binder/AIDL, HAL and vendor components, BSP integration, SELinux, platform security, compatibility, and system-level debugging.

You should be comfortable investigating problems across:

Android Framework Native Services HAL/Vendor BSP Kernel/Firmware Hardware

The goal isn't simply to make Android run. It's to build secure, stable, maintainable Android platforms designed for real products and long lifecycles.

What You'll Do

  • Build, customize, integrate, and maintain production AOSP platforms.
  • Develop and modify Android framework, native components, and system services.
  • Develop and integrate Binder/AIDL interfaces.
  • Integrate and debug HAL, vendor, SoC, and BSP components.
  • Investigate complex issues across framework, native services, HAL, vendor, BSP, and kernel boundaries.
  • Develop, integrate, and troubleshoot SELinux policies.
  • Work with Android boot, init, permissions, VINTF, and Project Treble.
  • Integrate and maintain Android platform-security mechanisms.
  • Support Android Verified Boot, secure platform configurations, and OTA/update mechanisms.
  • Support Android compatibility and platform validation using CTS, VTS, and related test suites.
  • Investigate platform performance, stability, boot, networking, and reliability issues.
  • Improve AOSP build, integration, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Collaborate with Embedded Linux, Product Cybersecurity, Validation, and DevOps engineers.

What You Bring

  • Strong professional experience developing AOSP at source/platform level, beyond Android SDK application development.
  • Strong understanding of Android system architecture and the AOSP source tree.
  • Hands-on experience with Android framework, native services, or system services.
  • Strong C/C++ development skills.
  • Experience with Binder and AIDL.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and debugging HAL and vendor components.
  • Experience with Android BSP and SoC/vendor integration.
  • Experience developing and debugging SELinux policies.
  • Good understanding of Android boot flow, init, permissions, and platform configuration.
  • Strong Linux and Android system-level debugging skills.
  • Experience with AOSP build systems such as Soong.
  • Ability to diagnose issues spanning multiple platform layers.
  • Strong Git and structured software-development practices.

Java/Kotlin experience at Android platform level is useful, but application-development experience alone is not sufficient for this role.

Technical Experience We Value

Relevant depth across several of these areas would be particularly valuable:

Qualcomm Android Platforms | Android BSP | VINTF / Treble | AVB / dm-verity | FBE / dm-crypt | KeyMint / Keymaster | Hardware-backed Keystore | SELinux | TrustZone / TEE | Secure Boot | A/B / Virtual A/B OTA | CTS / VTS / GTS | Security Patch Integration | Linux Kernel | Device Tree | Bootloader / Firmware Integration

Experience working on regulated, security-sensitive, mission-critical, or long-lifecycle products is an advantage.

What This Role Is Not

This is not primarily:

  • Android application development
  • Kotlin/Java mobile-app development
  • UI/application feature development
  • General mobile software development

It is also not primarily a Linux kernel or device-driver development role.

We need an engineer who operates at the Android platform level and can integrate, diagnose, secure, and maintain the complete AOSP system while working effectively with BSP, Linux, hardware, cybersecurity, and validation specialists.

Why Join L4B?

At L4B, you'll work on Android itself — not simply applications running on Android.

You'll work close to the OS, BSP, SoC, hardware, and product architecture, solving platform problems that require understanding how multiple system layers interact.

Your work will contribute to customized Android platforms that must remain secure, stable, maintainable, testable, and supportable throughout long product lifecycles.

We hire for technical depth, hands-on experience, problem-solving ability, and engineering ownership. You don't need every technology listed above, but you must have genuine AOSP platform-level experience.
